From One Bodega to a Grocery Family
In 1978, the Peña brothers—Eligio, Jacinto, and Gregorio—opened a small bodega in the heart of Queens, New York. What started as a modest neighborhood store, fueled by heart, hustle, and heritage, quickly became something much greater. With a deep understanding of their customers’ needs and a shared love for culture and cuisine, they created more than just a place to shop—they created a space where people felt seen, welcomed, and cared for.
Over the decades, that one store blossomed into Compare Foods: a growing chain of supermarkets built on community values, authentic global flavors, and a genuine commitment to service. Today, with 24 locations across five states, we remain devoted to the same mission—to bring people together through food and make every shopper feel like part of the family.
